SK Telecom announced that the company completed the building of a 406m2 Ubiquitous IT Center called ’Ubiquitous-Zone (U-Zone)’ at the 3rd floor departure gate in the Incheon International Airport, on August 19th. A total of 12 million travelers visit the departure gate each year.
’U-Zone’ showcases Korea’s representative ubiquitous services e.g. satellite DMB, digital home, Telematics, and WCDMA, as well as Korea’s unique converged services such as MelOn, GXG (3D games), 1mm, and Mobile Cyworld. This center also lets visitors take an advance look at Korea’s latest mobile services that have been crafted by cutting-edge technologies.
In particular, SK Telecom introduced a ’Mobile Assistant’ service designed to guide visitors with a mobile phone’s streaming video while in the ’U-Zone’. This allows visitors to view the zone conveniently, without having to wait for the staffs’ guidance.
SK Telecom is operating an ’SKT PR Center’ and a ’Digital Home Service Center’ in Boondang, and also at the ’MOMU’ website(www.momu.co.kr). ’Momu’ is an online mobile museum. These on and offline exhibition centers, together with ’U-Zone’, provide Koreans, as well as foreign travelers, with SK Telecom’s state-of-the-art mobile services and technologies. This will help cement Korea’s position as a mobile communications powerhouse.
High-ranking officials, and important persons in the private sectors, participated in the opening ceremony of ’U-Zone’, which took place on August 19th. This included Sang Su Ahn, governor of Incheon City, Jae Hee Lee, president of Incheon International Airport Corporation, and Shin Bae Kim, president of SK Telecom. President Kim commented in his opening speech, "U-Zone will soon become one of the major tourist attractions in Korea. It showcases Korea’s advanced information communications technologies to foreigners visiting Korea".
’U-Zone’ offers guidance in four languages (Korean, English, Chinese, and Japanese), and is located on the 3rd floor departure gate of Incheon International Airport. Anyone who visits the airport can use the ’U-Zone’ without making reservations. It is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. 365 days a year.
