SK Telecom introduces
The June service will be recognized as a new movie channel in Korea.
The introduction of this mobile phone film service will break new ground in the digital mobile movie industry.
June, SK Telecom’s mobile multimedia service, has positioned itself as a new movie channel one year after its launch. This service offers digital fragment omnibus movies (called "Yigong"), that consist of twenty movies that are each about five to eight minutes long. Twenty famous Korean movie directors produced these omnibus movies, and then decided to release them through the June service.
The June service launched a first run of these twenty omnibus movies starting on the 8th of December 2003. Furthermore, the movies will be introduced as opening ceremony features in the Korean Movie Academy Festival, which will take place on December 19, 2003. As a result, SK Telecom customers can enjoy a variety of first-run movies through their cellular phones everyday, starting on December 8th.
In the past SK Telecom used to introduce only previews, cuts of regular movies, and films made exclusively for mobile phones, through the June service. This is the first time for us to be able to provide our customers with movies that are designed to be run in the movie theaters, and put on the Movie Academy Festival. Due to this wonderful opportunity, the June service will be recognized as a new movie channel in Korea.
"Yigong" digital fragment omnibus movies introduce a variety of features, produced by twenty directors who have different styles in movie production. In terms of forms and content, SK Telecom customers will enjoy unique and different entertainment they will not get from traditional movies.
Young Sik Yu, a movie director who participated in the "Yigong" project commented, "We made these movies by utilizing digital technologies that overcome limitations caused by the long film making periods, and huge production systems, of traditional movies. The introduction of these mobile phone films will evoke a great response in the domestic movie industry".
Any customer who wants to enjoy this service, should connect to June service (? Movies > ? Mobile Movies > ? Yigong). Four hundred won is the use fee for each movie viewed.
