"The friendship between Korea and Turkey is flourishing"
SK Telecom (www.sktelecom.com), together with the Korean cheer-leading team called the Red Devils, has been actively supporting a variety of cheer-leading events and festivals for the Korean soccer team during the World Cup. The SK Telecom cheer-leading events for the Korean and Turkish Soccer Competition will contribute to enhancing the cooperative tie between both countries.
On the 29th of June, 2002, SK Telecom will hold an event donating 3,000 units of the Turkish national flag, and two large-sized national flags of Korea and Turkey, to people who gather in the Seoul City Hall Plaza to cheer for the Korea and Turkey Soccer Competition. The company will also hold a face-painting event depicting the two countries’ flags, and a ceremony of hoisting huge national flags of the two countries in front of the cheering crowed. Through these events, SK Telecom will lead people toward cheering for both the Korean and Turkish soccer teams at the same time.
Furthermore, the company will provide a separate place for the Turkish cheering group that consists of about 200 people from the Turkish Cultural Exchange Center and Turkish people who reside in Korea. This will yield an opportunity for sharing the friendship between the Korean and Turkish people.
"SK Telecom has planned this event in order to express the Korean people’s gratitude to Turkey for participating in the Korean War in 1950 when diplomatic relations between the two countries had not yet been formed" said Suk Hwan Lee, head of SK Telecom’s Marketing Strategy Division. "This event will also be held to congratulate the Korean and Turkish soccer teams’ great achievements in reaching the semifinal competition in the World Cup Games. The whole world is paying keen attention to both soccer teams" he added.
On the 13th of June, a group of about 1,000 Korean people exhibited the Korean people’s thankful hearts toward Turkey, by cheering for the Turkish soccer team during the game against China in the Sangam World Cup Soccer Stadium. The Korean cheering group was wearing Turkish national flag-marked yellow shirts and shouting "Viva Turkey (Victory Turkey)".
This event is expected to be a fine example of sports fan culture, by not only cheering for the home team, but also showing warm concern for the opposing team. During the World Cup Soccer Games, millions of cheering Korean people have surprised the whole world by showing their passion, high degree of festival culture, and sense of orderliness.
