Prestigious industry award from Telecom Asia honors SK Telecom for best combined services involving voice, data, video and new technologies
SK Telecom Senior Vice President Jinhong Kim said the company will further build mobile contents that will evolve towards more personalized, intelligent services
SK Telecom also highlighted the need to resolve bandwidth bottlenecks in the mobile industry to ensure quality of service to customers
Seoul, Korea, 21 April 2010 – SK Telecom (NYSE: SKM) today won the inaugural Best Converged Services Provider category award from Telecom Asia. The prestigious industry award recognized SK Telecom for delivering new services that combine voice, data, video and new technologies to customers.
SK Telecom Senior Vice President of Service Development Team Jinhong Kim received the award for the company at the 13th annual Telecom Asia Awards ceremony in Singapore, where he emphasized that SK Telecom is poised to expand its realm from the traditional consumer market to the enterprise one, developing and presenting various convergence services through human centered innovations.
The telecommunications market is undergoing a fundamental change, which is initiated by fast market maturing and spread of smart phones. The market is presenting a new set of challenges to traditional business models.
"We are honored to be named as the Best Converged Services Provider at this year’s Telecom Asia Awards. At this critical juncture, this award is really a testimony to our consistent mobile convergence efforts. This highlights our success and commitment to provide best mobile network quality, ubiquitous access and most comprehensive mobile contents that will evolve towards building a convergence hub and offer more personalized intelligent services to our customers," Kim said.

Earlier, Kim spoke at Telco Strategies 2010, an industry conference also organized by Telecom Asia, where he discussed the mobile challenges and breakthroughs, particularly in resolving growing bandwidth bottlenecks as a result of growing customer demand for new services.
"Strategic combination of diverse networks, which enables seamless handover and high speed data services, is key to solving network bottlenecks. SK Telecom has been operating multi-access mobile network and leveraging our optimal and seamless technology portfolio to overcome these challenges," said Kim.
SK Telecom has pioneered breakthrough converged mobile services in recent years. This in-cludes Live Share, a multimedia service that allows our customers to share diverse contents live including files, videos, photos, contacts and webpage during a call. Live Share is the most advanced IMS-based service that comes into play in the world among the many contents sharing services that had been selected by the GSMA’s RCS Suite, a project initiative charged with the responsibility for the standardization of IMS-based services.
Last year, SK Telecom launched T Store, a major initiative that showcases the company’s efforts to drive the expansion and evolution of mobile ecosystem. This aims to bring greater innovations and encourage the broader community to use more converged services.
Recently, SK Telecom launched T Smart Pay, which enables customers to use their mobile phones as credit cards. SK Telecom will continue to focus on driving the convergence trends and providing more cutting-edge ICT services for both business and consumer users, across various industries.
