The company won the Best Asian Telecom Carrier and the Best Mobile Carrier awards given by Telecom Asia for two years in a row.
The awards were given as a result of evaluating the financial results, market leadership and corporate governance, of about fifty telecom operators in Asia.
The Telecom Asia Awards are given every year by Telecom Asia, IT and telecom media in Asia, and IDC, market survey institute, as a result of evaluating financial results (40%), market leadership (20%) and corporate governance (20%) of about fifty telecom operators in Asia. These awards celebrated their 10th anniversary in 2007. A Telecom Asia official commented that the reason SK Telecom was selected as the Best Asian Telecom Carrier, is that it has continuously made investments in developing new content and networks in a saturated mobile communications market environment. In addition, SK Telecom demonstrated outstanding leadership in expanding its overseas business operations.
"These awards have great significance because SK Telecom’s achievements and growth potential have been recognized both at home and abroad. We will make concerted efforts to reinforce our competitive-edge in global operations, and lead in convergent markets, as well as strengthen our domestic wireless market leadership, thereby achieving sustainable growth” said Joong Rae Cho, head of SK Telecom’s PR Office.
A ceremony for the awarding of prizes for winners in twelve categories that included SK Telecom, took place in
SK Telecom was also selected as the Best Asian Carrier in 2006, and won a prize for being the Best CDMA Operator in 2000.
