SK Telecom made a strategic partnership agreement with `BlueRun Ventures` for business cooperation and joint investments in the IT sector.
This strategic partnership will serve as a bridgehead for SK Telecom to extend its global R&D networks, and increase global competencies.
SK Telecom announced on February 14 that it executed a strategic partnership agreement for business cooperation and joint investments in the IT sector with ’BlueRun Ventures’ of the U.S.
Since its establishment in 1998, ’BlueRun Ventures’ has grown to become a worldwide venture capital firm based in both Europe and the U.S. To date, the company is operating a $1 billion US investment fund in the IT and mobile communications sectors in the U.S. , Finland , China , India and Israel . BlueRun Venture’s major shareholder is Nokia, the number one mobile phone manufacturer in the world.
An SK Telecom official indicated that this strategic alliance will lay a solid foundation for SK Telecom to extend its global R&D networks as well as increase global competencies, by investing in global venture companies with state-of-the-art IT technologies. Notably the two companies plan to share global IT trends and make joint investments in promising venture companies. In addition, SK Telecom will create other successful business models in joint ventures with BlueRun Ventures.
Se Hyun Oh, head of SK Telecom’s Strategic Technology Group, commented, “We are making concerted efforts to develop new technologies and business models with a view to gaining new growth drivers. As a part of these efforts, we are working hard to upgrade our global R&D capabilities. This strategic partnership will serve as a bridgehead for connecting SK Telecom with IT venture companies with innovative technologies. This will result in our further advancement into the global market.”
A ceremony for the strategic partnership took place in Barcelona, Spain on February 14th, and about 30 officers of the two companies participated in the ceremony. Among those in attendance were Se Hyun Oh, senior vice-president of SK Telecom, and John Gardner, a joint founder of BlueRun Ventures.
