SK Telecom, Provides `SK Telecom Library` to the National Library of Hanoi, Vietnam

Plan to provide a total of 20 libraries by 2008 in the three main regions of Ho Chi Minh, Hanoi and Da Nang.
On January 16th, SK Telecom (CEO Kim Shin-Bae, www.sktelecom.com) opens the third "SK Telecom Library" in the National Library of Hanoi, the only national library in Vietnam.
The "SK Telecom Library" is part of a library supporting project conducted jointly with the NGO group "Global Civic Sharing" in Vietnam. On September 26 of last year, the first library was opened at the Ho Chi Minh Polytechnic University, and the second at the Ho Chi Minh Economics University. This business provides support for education infrastructure, focused around the major university libraries, such as library remodeling, and provision of specialized publications and facilities. Its aim is to improve the education environment in Vietnam, which is highly motivated but lacks infrastructure.
By the end of 2008, SK Telecom plans to invest USD 320,000 to supply approximately 20 libraries, focused around the three regions of Ho Chi Minh, Hanoi, and Danang of Vietnam. This year, eight SK Telecom Libraries will open. At the end of last year, subscribers to S-Fone, SK Telecom’s Vietnam business, reached 1.5 million, and it is hoped that SK Telecom and Vietnam’s regional society will grow together based on a relationship of long term co-existence.
Since 1996, SK Telecom has conducted free surgery for facially deformed children in Vietnam, returning smiles to approximately 2,300 facially deformed Vietnamese children during the past 11 years. From 2004, SK Telecom has conducted community service activities in the Vietnam region, such as support of students studying IT overseas, and volunteer activities by executives/employees and SK Telecom?s university volunteer group "Sunny".
In November of last year, SK Telecom provided support for construction of a Korean school in Hanoi. It plans to continue implementing community service activities in the East Asia region including Vietnam and China, focusing on education and scholarships. In October of this year, an"SK Telecom IT Center" is to be established in the Quang Trung region of Ho Chi Minh, to contribute in the development of specialized IT professionals and creation of jobs.
Cho Joong-Rae, head of the Public Relations Office of SK Telecom, remarked, "The SK Telecom Library business in Vietnam will provide an opportunity for the building of a relationship for long term co-existence with the local society of Vietnam. This is an example of the global expansion of our corporate vision - maximization of the happiness of all members of society."
