SK Telecom is raising the handset subsidy to subscribers whose ARPU level is over KRW70,000, and providing additional benefits to long-term subscribers whose subscription period is longer than eight years.
This new subsidy plan is designed to respond to long-term subscribers’ demands, and our competitors’ policy to increase their handset subsidies.
The company announced a reduction of the subsidy amount up to KRW10,000 to each subscriber whose ARPU ranges from KRW30,000 to KRW70,000, starting on May 25th.
the plan for lowering the subsidy amounts is designed to improve excessive competition and stabilize the market.
SK Telecom has decided to adjust the amount and payment criteria for handset subsidies that have been in force since March 27, 2006. This new handset subsidy initiative will become effective on April 21st after the amending of the service agreement
According to the amended service agreement, SK Telecom raised the handset subsidy amount range from a minimum of KRW10,000 to a maximum of KRW50,000 to the subscribers whose monthly average revenue per user (ARPU) level reaches over KRW70,000. The company is also poised to provide additional benefits to long-term subscribers whose subscription period is for more than eight years.
In this regard, the company will pay handset subsidies amounting to KRW90,000 to the long-term subscribers whose ARPU reached less than KRW30,000. If the subscribers’ ARPU recorded KRW30,000 ~ KRW40,000, SK Telecom will pay KRW110,000. SK Telecom will also pay KRW130,000 and KRW150,000 to subscribers whose ARPU recorded KRW40,000 ~ KRW50,000 and KRW50,000 ~ KRW70,000 respectively. In addition, KRW200,000 and KRW240,000 will be given to subscribers whose ARPU reaches KRW70,000 ~ KRW90,000 and more than KRW90,000 respectively. The company is managed to solve long-term subscribers’ complaints about the previous subsidy plan by releasing this new subsidy plan.
On the other hand, SK Telecom announced the reduction of the subsidy amount up to KRW 10,000 to each subscriber whose ARPU ranges from KRW30,000 to KRW70,000 starting on May 25. In this case, even though the company modifies the service agreement and reveals it on April 21st, it will only be put in force starting on May 25th pursuant to the notification of the Ministry of Information and Communication, saying that the reduction of handset subsidy has a grace period for a minimum of one month from the day of reporting a new service agreement. To protect long-term subscribers, SK Telecom decided not to reduce the subsidy amount for subscribers whose subscription period is for more than eight years
