About 50,000 customers stay in the U.S. longer than six months every year
This service lets subscribers make calls to Korea up to 65% cheaper than the international calls offered by local cellular service providers. They can also enjoy a free call rate plan that allows unlimited free local calls during a discounted time frame
Any SK telecom customer can use This service. the service rates used in the U.S. will be billed to the SK telecom cellular number they use in Korea.
SK Telecom customers who stay in the U.S. for longer time periods can now use cellular service conveniently and economically.
On February 1st, SK Telecom announced the launching of a "Long-term Rental Cellular Service" for customers who stay in the U.S. longer than six months. This service lets them use SK Telecom cellular service more conveniently, and at more affordable rates.
Previously people have to pay a deposit (about 400 dollars), or open a bank account or credit card account after gaining social security numbers, when they subscribe to cellular phone service while visiting the U.S. due to such things as studies or training. Now if they choose to use SK Telecom?s Long-term Cellular Rental service, they do not have to follow these procedures.
Any SK Telecom customer can use this service if they apply for the service at least one week before their departure. After the subscription is made, they receive a rental phone at the airport, and can use the service upon arrival in the U.S. The service rates used in the U.S. will be billed to the SK Telecom cellular number they use in Korea.
Notably this service lets SK Telecom customers make calls to Korea up to 65% cheaper than the international calls offered by local cellular service providers. SK Telecom also offers a free call rate plan that allows for unlimited free local calls during discounted time frames. In addition, such value-added services as "Calling Number Identification", "Call Forwarding" "Call Waiting" and "Voice Mailing" are offered free of charge.
The Long-term Rental Cellular service rates are as follows:
/When one is making international calls to Korea, KRW 100 (USD 0.1, exchange rate: USD 1 = KRW 1,000) per minute will be charged. This price is about 65% cheaper than the service rates (USD 0.28 per minute) charged by cellular service providers in the U.S. /SK Telecom offers two different monthly flat rate plans. USD 39.95 flat rate plan offers free local calls for 500 minutes during non-discounted time frames. USD 59.95 flat rate plan provides free local calls for 1,000 minutes during non-discounted time frames. After exceeding free call portions (500 minutes & 1,000 minutes), KRW 350 per minute will be charged. /During discounted time frame (from 21:00 to 06:00, or Saturdays and Sundays), local calls in the U.S. are free of charge.
To use the service in the U.S., the subscriber must purchase a dual band handset. They can pay for the handset through monthly installments of KRW 120,000 for six months, or monthly payments of KRW 90,000 for one year. Subscribers can apply for these purchases at SK Telecom?s Rental Roaming Center (82-2-3788-3011) or the website (www.sktroaming.com).
