In `RFID/USN Korea 2005`, the company will showcase RFID technology-based new services, and discuss the development of RFID technology and its industrial applications with global telecom companies).
’RFID/USN Korea 2005’ is hosted by the Ministry of Information and Communication, and sponsored by the RFID/USN Association, the National Computerization Agency as well as the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute. It is designed to promote the development of new technologies using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and a Ubiquitous Sensor Network (USN), as well as deploy business models of related industries. RFID and USN are considered as the next generation key industries of ubiquitous computing.
’RFID/USN Korea 2005’ includes a ’Government Pilot Project Pavilion’ that introduces national defense and logistics services using the RFID technology. About 50 H/W and S/W companies in mobile communications and electronics both at home and abroad will participate in this exposition.
In the Pilot Project Pavilion, SK Telecom will present a pilot ’Genuine Ginseng Verification Service’ that is designed to authenticate genuine ginseng products through RFID tag information. The basic specifications and distribution information of Korea Ginseng Corporation?s products will be stored in the RFID tag, and consumers will be able to verify the distribution channels and genuine products through their mobile phones.
In addition, each section of each RFID-based service is offered in order to let visitors conveniently experience the services beneficial to their everyday lives. There are five sections in the exhibition, and they present the following services: ’U-Shop’ designed to let customers purchase goods by reading product information contained in the RFID tag, ’U-Restaurant’ that allows customers to learn recipes for products and receive discount coupons in specific restaurants, through the tag. ’U-Gallery’ will let customers obtain information about a piece of art in a gallery or museum. ’U-Theater’ is designed to let customers purchase movie tickets in advance, and enjoy previews by reading a tag attached to movie posters. ’U-Street’ offers information about public transportation and underground facilities, through a tag.
The exhibition will also showcase a ’Bus Guide Service’ that provides bus traffic information through a tag attached to a bus route map, as well as a ’Location-based Advertisement Service’ that lets users gain discount coupons when purchasing goods upon reading ads shown on a RFID terminal when they are approaching specific billboards. In addition there will be a ’Mobile Business Card Service’ that allows users to gain additional information through tags attached to business cards.
At the exhibition, there will be an international conference on October 13th and 14th in which about 1,000 RFID/USN-related businesspersons and researchers both at home and abroad, will attend. RFID standardization, the latest technology status, future business modes, and successful RFID service application cases in overseas countries (USA, Europe, Japan, and Singapore) will be discussed at the conference. Shin Bae Kim, chairman of the Korea RFID/USN Association, will give the keynote speech.
Chairman Kim revealed that despite the fact that a variety of RFID/USN-related expositions had been held in advanced countries like the USA and Europe, there has been no such exposition held in Korea. By taking this opportunity, feasible business models will be introduced, and this will strengthen the competitiveness of RFID technologies and contribute to the development of the RFID/USN industry in the future.
