Even internet beginners can conveniently use this service. The ’Melon’ service is expected to establish itself as an ’everyday ubiquitous music service’.
The world’s first ubiquitous music portal service called ’Melon’ will soon be available on TV.
SK Telecom announced on the 16th of June that the company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Intel Korea that will be a driver for the digital home entertainment business.
The MoU outlines how the two companies will jointly develop and introduce a new concept of digital entertainment service dubbed the ’Melon Home Service’, that will combine SK Telecom’s ’Melon’ service and Intel’s digital home PC. It will be possible to enjoy the ’Melon’ service on Intel’s digital home PC, starting in the first half of 2006.
SK Telecom and Intel also plan to introduce a more advanced service than the ones currently offered on the Internet and mobile devices. This is made possible by enabling software and hardware technologies. That is to say, when the digital home solution is launched, customers will be able to utilize Melon’s music and music video services through the TV and home audio connected with the digital home PC.
Seung Yoon Ahn, head of SK Telecom’s Content Business Division said, "Through this strategic alliance, the ’Melon’ service area will be branching out from existing personal spaces such as individual PCs as well as MP3 players, into people’s everyday lives in their living rooms and inner rooms. The ’Melon’ service is expected to establish itself as an everyday ubiquitous music service by extending its music content to the consumers’ home electronics appliances."
Hee Sung Lee, president of Intel Korea, also commented, "Intel’s digital home service is designed to let consumers enjoy entertainment and multimedia content anytime, anywhere, and with any device. Our collaboration with SK Telecom will be a cornerstone that helps domestic consumers experience true and complete digital services in their daily lives."
