Launches a Korea’s first ’Interactive SMS Automatic Roaming’ service in Guam and Saipan starting on June 15th

SK Telecom subscribers can send and receive text messages via their mobile phone while staying overseas.
SK Telecom will launch a Korea’s first ’Interactive SMS Automatic Roaming’ service in Guam and Saipan starting on June 15th. This service lets subscribers send and receive Korean text messages via their mobile phone.
An SK Telecom official revealed that SK Telecom subscribers who are visiting Guam and Saipan, favorite places for vacation or honeymoon, can now conveniently enjoy voice call and wireless Internet services, and send and receive text messages while using the same number and handset they used in Korea.
The text message roaming service fees are economical. When the subscribers transmit text message to Korea from Guam or Saipan, only KRW 460 per one time transmission will be charged (The VAT is not included). However, when they make voice calls from Guam and Saipan to Korea, KRW 1,352 per one minute will be charged. When receiving calls from Korea, the call fee is KRW 923 per one minute (USD 1 = KRW 1,008).
The subscribers can receive text messages from Korea and foreign countries free of charge. The Korean text message roaming service is being offered in 10 CDMA Automatic Roaming service-enabled countries that include China, Japan, Thailand, and New Zealand. However, 73 GSM Roaming countries in Europe and Southeast Asia are providing the text messages in English.
In the future, SK Telecom plans to expand ’Interactive SMS Automatic Roaming’ service area to major CDMA Automatic Roaming service-enabled countries such as China and Hong Kong.
