SK Telecom decided to move its head office to the SK T-Tower which is located in Uljiro, Seoul. The company has been based in the SK Seorin Building in Jongro, Seoul for four years.
SK Telecom held an office building completion ceremony on December 16th at 11 a.m. The participants in the ceremony numbered one hundred SK Telecom employees, and officials from affiliated entities. These included Jung Nam Cho, vice-chairman of SK Telecom, Shin Bae Kim, president of SK Telecom, Sang Koo Nam, outside director of SK Telecom, Tae Won Chey, chairman of SK Corp. and Heon Cheol Shin, president of SK Corp.
SK T-Tower has a height of 148m with 33 ground floors, plus 6 underground floors, and a size of about 27 thousand pyung. About 2,500 SK Telecom employees will work in this building located in Uljiro-2ga, Choong-gu, Seoul. SK Global’s (currently SK Networks) head office used to be located in this building.
Many SK Telecom divisions were based in its head office in the SK Seorin Building, but some of its divisions were scattered in other buildings such as the Seoul Finance Center and the SK Namsan Building. Now all divisions will be centralized at SK T-Tower. This will increase managerial efficiency, and maximize synergistic effects between divisions.
The most distinctive feature of SK T-Tower is the unique design of the building’s external appearance. Its front side is slanted starting at the 27th floor as it adopts the external design of a folder type mobile phone. This design represents SK Telecom’s strong desire to communicate with customers as a telecommunications service provider.
In particular, the blue glass panels of the building let viewers enjoy a broad spectrum of sensations through different angles of light reflection in the viewers’ sight plane. It effectively expresses the image of our dynamic and evolving IT industry.
Shin Bae Kim, president of SK Telecom stated, "SK T-Tower is not a simple office building, but it is a space that creates an innovative image of SK Telecom leading in this convergent and ubiquitous paradigm. In this building, SK Telecom will leap forward into a second stage based on our employees’ consolidated competencies."
SK Telecom’s Customer Service Group first moved to the new head office on December 11th. The remaining groups will be completely moved by December 24th. To minimize customer inconvenience and any working vacuum due to the head office move, SK Telecom will offer an automatic responding service (ARS) that will announce the new telephone number of each division in SK T-Tower, until the end of January 2005.
