SK Telecom announced that eighty Business Administration College students of the Chungang University were given a lecture on the company’s community relations activities on November 17th, in the SK Telecom Future Management Institute. The students also had an opportunity to discuss corporate ethics and community relations activities with members of the company staff.
In September of this year SK Telecom and Chungang University jointly developed a program on the subject in Business Administration that is named ’Social Responsibility and Ethics’. In line with this, the university selected SK Telecom’s community relations activities as a case study of the subject. The students will also have the opportunity to directly participate in a variety of SK Telecom’s community relations activities.
In the lecture, SK Telecom officials explained that business enterprises must make their utmost effort to increase values for customers, stockholders, and employees. In addition, they must strive to keep trustworthy relations with the government, business partners, and general public. SK Telecom emphasized that the company has been actively practicing social responsibilities with the aim of producing maximum mutual benefit with a variety of concerned parties.
After the lecture, the Chungang University students participated in an after-school program called ’Playing Class’that is designed to help elementary school students of low-income families. They will also carry out volunteer activities together with SK Telecom at a ’Beautiful Sharing Bazaar’ that will be held on November 20th for the benefit of our unfortunate neighbors
Chan Hee Park, professor of Chungang University’s Business Administration Department said, ’We went beyond a simple theoretical study when we selected SK Telecom’s activities as a community relations model. We did this in order to explore the reality of a business enterprises role in helping society. Thanks to the help from SK Telecom and civic welfare institutions, the lecture that goes beyond theory and finds the right answers, became possible.
Hyung Hee Lee, vice-president of SK Telecom’s CR Strategy Office commented, "Enterprises cannot constantly grow only through the pursuit of profitability. They must create new values by assuming the role of faithful corporate citizens. This lecture has a great significance in terms of offering theoretical background and new perspectives about the social responsibilities of an enterprise. It also gives students an opportunity to gain direct experience in community relations activities", he added.
SK Telecom officially launched a ’Community Relations Volunteer Group’ in March of this year. About 1,300 employees out of a total of 4,000 employees are members of this volunteer group.
