Under the theme of ’Sharing and Collaboration’, this event is composed of forums in the three fields of Business /Technology/Device, and discussion sessions among CDMA equipment manufacturers. All participants have organized and operated three working groups since February of this year in preparing for this event. Therefore, in-depth debates and important policy issues are expected to ensue. The first CDMA Operators Summit was held in Beijing in 2003, and the 2nd summit was held in Tokyo in 2003. SK Telecom will host this year’s summit.
A total of 26 CDMA operators and institutions in 13 countries will directly participate in the forum and discussion session. These include CEOs from major CDMA operators in Korea (Shin Bae Kim, president of SK Telecom), China (Wang Jian Zhou, chairman of China Unicom), Japan (Tadashi Onodera, president of KDDI), and USA (Qualcomm and Sprint) among others.
Shin Bae Kim, president of SK Telecom, will speak on ’The New environment of change in the telecommunications market in the upcoming convergent and ubiquitous era, and a CDMA operators’ cooperation plan to effectively respond to this change’ during his welcoming speech. He will also preside over about a 70 minute discussion at the Technology Executive Forum regarding the direction being taken toward a CDMA technology development and cooperation plan.
Daeje Chin, the Korean Minister of Information and Communication, through his keynote speech will disclose his views on W-CDMA activation plans and an IT839 strategy that will give a new momentum to Korea’s IT industry. In the Manufacturer’s Perspective session, LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, Qualcomm, and Texas Instruments will reveal their current technological development status and new product launch schedule. They will also propose a development plan of CDMA coverage for all sectors of the world.
Shin Bae Kim, president of SK Telecom said, "We expect that this summit will achieve more tangible performance in terms of quality, compared with the summit held in Tokyo in 2003" (17 CDMA operators participated). "In the future, the CDMA operators summit will solidify its position as a representative private telecom cooperation event in which telecom operators can share their wisdom and keep up with the rapidly changing telecommunications environment".
