Customers can conveniently enjoy this road guide through a wide range of search functions and movement tracking guides
SK Telecom also introduced a ’Safety Drive’ service that offers safe driving information.
On September 6th, SK Telecom announced the launching of the ’NATE Pedestrian Road Guide’ service that is Korea’s first navigation service for pedestrians. This service offers pedestrians the safest and most efficient routes, and their projected arrival time, at their final destination. These services are accomplished by applying an MS-based GPS solution to the Becktermap service.
Any SK Telecom customer can enjoy route guidance through the NATE Pedestrian Road Guide service when they connect to the NATE road guide service via their cellular phone and input their current location and destination. Prior to conducting the road guide service, they can verify their route path, as well as their final destination, by using such functions as ’Destination Map Searching’, ’Entire Route Searching’ and ’Simulated Walking’.
The service also lets customers directly set their starting place and destination, as well as receive public transportation use information through the ’Traffic Guide’ service. To get the traffic guide, they should select one of the two menus labeled ’Walking Track’ and ’Walking plus Public Transportation Track’
NATE Pedestrian Road Guide service users can set their starting place and destination through a broad spectrum of searching functions that include ’Current Location Search’, ’Name/Address/Subway Station Searching’, ’Latest List Searching’, ’Registered Location Searching’, ’Buddy Searching’, etc. And then, the road route will be offered through varied road track guide functions. These include: * a ’Text-based Guide’ that gives a best route guide service through pop-up text about track hazards, GPS signal receipt impairment, and a public transportation guide * The ’Vibration Guide’ offers direction turning points through vibration * The ’Voice! Guide’ provides ongoing movement tracks via voice * There is also a ’Map and Image Guide’ that offers directions and remaining distances, as well as showing the users current location on a map.
In order to facilitate customer convenience, SK Telecom has also developed a function that lets customers use the NATE Pedestrian Road Guide service in cases where the cellular folder-flip is closed, or the slide on a slide type cellular phone, is lowered down, while using the service.
An SK Telecom official revealed that this service is very useful when customers take a new road, want to know a short-cut road, or do not know their current location. Through this service, SK Telecom plans to provide a total customized route guidance service for pedestrians, in the future. This service includes weather conditions at the location, shopping information, nearby-restaurant information, etc.
