Press Release
Launches light and economical mobile phone for children that has limited but crucial functions.
Lets children make calls using only four numbers, and it prevents a child’s excessive calling because it does not have wireless Internet and text message transmission functions.
Focuses on the protection of children through such functions as instantaneous emergency calls, location identification, and ’safety zone’
Offers Blind Power-off function which enables location tracking while the child’s phone is off.
Starting on August 26th, SK Telecom will introduce the ’i-Kids service’ that helps parents protect the safety of their children through the use of the location function of the Global Positioning System (GPS) offered by the mobile phones for children. Through this service, customers are able to identify the location of their children at anytime. They are also allowed to use the Safety Zone service that immediately informs parents if their children leave the safety zone set by their parents.
In addition, the ’i-Kids service’ offers a children’s route detection function that lets their parents identify their children’s movements when an emergency situation occurs. This service also allows children to have conversations with up to four people at the same time, by pressing the emergency button on their cellular phone. This allows contact with close friends, relatives, or response personnel who are registered on the cellular phone by their parents. In addition, the children are allowed to send their current location information in case of an emergency situation. A map provided by the service will then pinpoint the caller’s exact location.
’i-Kids service’ can be offered through mobile phones for the exclusive use of children (BCL-862S, Bell Wave). This phone has a Blind Power-off function which enables location tracking while the phone is off. It also has an automatic call connection function that lets children automatically receive calls from their parents in emergency situations.
In particular, the ’i-Kids service’ phone allows children to make calls to the appropriate persons by using four emergency buttons. This phone also prevents children’s excessive call use because it does not have value-added service functions such as entering the wireless Internet, text message transmission, etc.
Customers can access the information about their children’s location through any NATE service-enabled cellular phone, www.NATE.com, ARS(1598-7942), or connecting to NATE (**07942+Call) by using a text message. A 3,000 won service use fee will be charged as a flat rate starting in September. Customers can subscribe to this service at any SK Telecom Customer Center, branch office, or authorized exclusive dealers. They can purchase an ’i-Kids service’ phone at SK Telecom authorized exclusive dealers, nationwide.
