Offers Automatic Roaming Service and ’Calling Number Identification Service’ to Israel from fourteen regions that include the U.S., Japan, China, and Australia.
This is a new launch of this type of service in the Middle-East region.
On June 8th, an SK Telecom official announced the launch of an Automatic Roaming Service in Israel. This service starts on the 1st of June 2004. The company’s customers can now enjoy cellular service in Israel while using the same number and handset they used in Korea. To provide roaming service in the country, SK Telecom has reached an international roaming agreement with Pelephone of Israel.
After beginning the service in Australia in September of 2000, the company has continued to expand the CDMA Automatic Roaming Service into the U.S., Japan, China, Canada, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Thailand, Guam, Saipan Island, Mexico, Peru, Taiwan, etc. By adding the service area in Israel, SK Telecom’s 011 and 017 cellular subscribers can now use the service in fourteen regions throughout the world.
The company is also offering a "Calling Number Identification Service" to Israel. Therefore, the "Calling Number Identification Service" area has expanded to 10 regions that include the U.S., China, Thailand, Guam, Saipan Island, Hong Kong, and New Zealand.
The launch of the Automatic Roaming Service in Israel carries great significance because SK Telecom has now laid the groundwork for introducing the service throughout the Middle-East region.
The service rate for local calls in Israel is 429 won (0.37US$, 1$=1160 won) per minute. When customers make an international call to Korea, they will be charged 1,984 won (1.71US$) per minute. When they receive a call from Korea, The service rate is 1,056 won per minute. Short written message roaming service is not offered in Israel.
When SK Telecom customers make cellular calls in the roaming areas of Israel, they press area code and phone number for local calls, and press the international call carriers’ number, country code, area code, and phone number for international calls. When making calls between SK Telecom subscribers in the country, they simply press the numbers in the same way they do when making calls in Korea.
In order to use this service, the cellular handsets that are used in Korea require a menu setting that allows the handset to receive the local mobile phone company’s frequency. Once the customers get a roaming service guide from SK Telecom’s International Roaming Center located in the 3rd floor Departure Gate and Duty Free Area (in front of Gate No 28) at the Incheon International Airport, they can simply make necessary changes, and operate the cellular handset menu on their own.
