SK Telecom announced its organizational change today, while holding the inaugural ceremony of the new Vice Chairman Jung Uck Seo(former President)and the new President Jung Nam Cho at its headquarters.
Organizational Change
SK Telecom says that the goal of its reorganization effort is to establish a responsible management system that is capable of undertaking major management innovation. The three primary objectives of management innovation are; 1) management of core competence; 2) management of accountability; and 3) value-oriented management. SK Telecom expects that these will help respond flexibly to the fast changing environment with competition and services converging through strengthening the competitiveness of the existing business units while continuously adding new dimensions to them.
Introducing the Business Unit System to Reinforce Management Accountability
First, the company converts the current organizational system based on function into the business unit system, thereby reorganizes existing eleven divisions to four; wireless business divisional group; business development divisional group; strategy support divisional group; and strategic technology divisional group.
Introducing New Operational Systems
To effectively achieve the above-mentioned goals, SK Telecom introduces the so-called Transfer Pricing System and the Integrated Strategic Measures. A Management Strategy Committee will be installed and the present management appraisal system will be improved.
In his inaugural speech, President Cho said SK Telecom will "push for a comprehensive manageme/nt innovation quickly and aggressively in order to lay firm grounds not only for short-term survival but also for future long-term growth."
He said, "in order for us to stand on a firm footing for continuous growth as a company trusted by consumers, we will put customer satisfaction above everything else, and in order to lead the global telecom markets in the next century, we will have to put particular emphasis on developing new technologies." He also said, "we must maintain the lead in the mobile industry that we now have and try to make SK Telecom a company where its workforce and the company grow together."
New Executive Officers
With its executive reshuffling, SK Telecom named Senior Vice President Moon Soo Pyo as the head of the wireless business divisional group overseeing marketing and production of cellular phone and radio paging service and Senior Vice president Heon Cheol Shin as the president of SK Telink. In addition to this, several executive reshuffle was made. The new executive lineup aims to reinforce its existing and new businesses simultaneously and reorganize management around the new president.
