’Written Message Automatic Roaming Service’, and Calling Number Identification Service, are now provided in 9 regions throughout the world
An SK Telecom official announced the launch of the Automatic Roaming Service in Taiwan, Mexico, and Peru, starting on the 17th of December 2003. The company’s customers can now enjoy cellular service in the above countries while using the same number and handset they used in Korea.
To provide roaming service in these countries, SK Telecom has reached international roaming agreements with such CDMA operators as Asia Pacific Broadband Wireless (APBW) of Taiwan, IUSACELL of Mexico, and Telefonica Mobiles of Peru.
After beginning the service in Australia in September of 2000, the company has continued to expand the CDMA Automatic Roaming Service into the U.S., Japan, China, Canada, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Thailand, Guam, Saipan Island, etc. By adding the service area in Taiwan, Mexico and Peru, SK Telecom’s 011 and 017 cellular subscribers can use the service in 13 regions throughout the world. SK Telecom is the only company in Korea that is offering International Automatic Roaming Service.
To be more specific, SK Telecom customers are allowed to use the roaming service in almost all major cities and tourist resorts in Taiwan, Mexico, and Peru. These include Taipei, Taijung, and Kaosong in Taiwan, Mexico City, Reon, Tabasco, Guadalajara, and Puebla in Mexico, and Lima, Nasca, Kusco, and Arekipa in Peru.
The company is also offering ’Written Message Automatic Roaming Service’ to Taiwan and Mexico. Therefore, the ’Written Message Automatic Roaming Service’ area has expanded to 9 regions that include Japan, China, New Zealand, Guam, Saipan Island, Thailand and Hong Kong. At the same time, SK Telecom Calling Number Identification Service for the company’s cellular subscribers is provided in 9 regions that include the U.S., China, Thailand, Guam, Saipan Island, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Taiwan and Mexico.
When SK Telecom customers make cellular calls in the roaming areas of Taiwan, Mexico, and Peru, they press area code and phone number for local calls, and press the international call carriers’ number, country code, area code, and phone number for international calls. When making calls between 011/017 subscribers in these 3 countries, they press the numbers in the same way they make calls in Korea.
In order to use this service, the cellular handsets that are used in Korea require a menu setting that allows the handset to receive the local mobile phone companies’ frequency. Once the customers get a roaming service guide from SK Telecom’s Automatic Roaming Customer Center, or from the International Roaming Center (3rd floor Departure Gate) and Leaders Club Lounge (Duty Free Area) at the Incheon International Airport, they can simply make necessary changes, and operate the cellular handset menu on their own.
