SK Telecom Donates Wheelchairs and Livelihood Assistance to the Unemployed Handicapped

It must have been a very timely present for the handicapped who had lost their jobs because the Chusok (the Thanksgiving) holiday is nearing.
SK Telecom hosted the 1998 Help the Community March jointly with KBS, a national broadcaster, and the Practi ce of Love: People’s Movement Headquarters in the Chong-myo Park on September 30, and had a ceremony to present the homes of the handicapped who lost their jobs after last year’s currency crisis with wheelchairs and livelihood assistance.
At the ceremony, the company presented 200 handicapped people with wheelchairs and 30 million won in livelihood assistance and also donated money, clothes and foods to the five child welfare facilities that take care of the children of the handicapped.
SK Telecom received an appreciation plaque from the Korea Red Cross in recognition of the contribution it has made to the betterment of the society.
The company has initiated various drives to help the disadvantaged such as "Bring Ten-won Coins" campaign, "Let’s Make Our Children’s Schools Safe" campaign and "Donate Your Old Beepers" campaign. It also sponsored the production and distribution of the CD-ROMs for the handicapped and encouraged businesses to employ young family supporters. SK Telecom has been especially active in promoting the causes to help the disadvantaged teenagers "believing that helping the youth is important to create a better world." It pledges that it will continue to work for the youth and the socially disadvantaged.
