SK Telecom introduces space-age technology based on CDMA2000 1xEV-DO network.
A wireless Internet service provided by a joint venture company formed by SK Telecom and China Unicom, is being showcased as well.
About 500 IT companies from 21 countries participated at the exhibition in Beijing.
The global 3G service providers, and equipment and terminal manufacturers, are showcasing state-of-the-art technology in the exhibition. They are competing with each other to draw China’s attention, and preempt the 3G service market in China. The Chinese government plans to select 3G service providers in the near future.
SK Telecom announced that the company will showcase the CDMA2000 1x EV-DO network, and present the world’s best level of 3G services, at the ’PT/EXPO COMM CHINA 2003’ held in Beijing from the 12th to the 16th of November.
’PT/EXPO COMM CHINA 2003’, the largest specialized information communication exhibition in Asia, was held under the sponsorship of the Chinese Ministry of the Information Industry. About 500 companies from 21 countries that are already doing business in China, or plan to launch into its market, participated in the exhibition.
Being aware that 3G service is becoming the hot issue in the Chinese telecom market, SK Telecom plans to focus on introducing ’June’, a premium multimedia 3G service, thereby preempting the next generation Chinese mobile communication market.
On top of this, the company plans to introduce the concept of ’A Ubiquitous World’ that allows people to communicate anytime and anywhere on the planet. SK Telecom will let visitors experience the ’Ubiquitous World’ in which people can process every type of information without the limitations of time and space, by using a variety of wired and wireless services.
To this end, the company built a 364? booth at exhibition hall 2, and divided it into 4 sectors that cover NATE, JUNE, MONETA, and SKY Handsets. These are presented in the context of ’Realizing an Ubiquitous World with SK Telecom’. All of these services and facilities are available for visitors to try for themselves.
In the Ubiquitous Multimedia Sector, the company demonstrates such 3G multimedia services as video phones, VOD (Video-On-Demand), MOD (Music-On-Demand), and MOA (Mobile Advertisement, as well as a JUNE service based on a 1xEV-DO network installed in the exhibition center.
SK Telecom’s JUNE service has the world’s largest 3G subscriber base. Because of this, it is drawing keen attention from the Chinese telecom industry which is showing great interest in 3G services and technology nowadays. A number of Chinese press reporters is asking for interviews, and collecting data about June Services.
In the Ubiquitous Internet Sector, SK Telecom showcases the main wireless Internet services that are being offered in the domestic market. These include, a mosquito eradication service, a Home Automation Service (NATE Care), a Location-Based Service (NATE Drive), and Mate Searching. A wired and wireless integrated messenger service (NATE On), 3D games, Photo Mail, and many others, are also featured. In particular, mosquito eradication through cellular phones attracted a great deal of attention from the world press last summer.
In the exhibition, a joint venture company formed by SK Telecom and China Unicom, will introduce a wireless portal service called ’U Jok-Bu-Rak’. ’U Jok-Bu-Rak’ stands for the community (Bu-Rak) of young elites (U Jok). This contains the following communities: An ’Entertainment Community’ that provides a variety of games. A ’Music Community’ that allows users to download bell sounds, popular songs, etc. A ’Picture Community’ that lets users decorate their handsets with varied pictures and characters. A ’Sentiment Community’ that allows users to enjoy chatting and music cards which contains melody as well as streaming video. A ’Daily Life Community’ that provides beneficial services like fortune telling, mosquito eradication through cellular phones, etc. This service will be commercially launched by November of this year for China Unicom’s CDMA service subscribers.
In the Ubiquitous Payment Sector, SK Telecom presents the ’MONETA Service’ that enables monetary transactions using a cellular phone at cash machines and vending machines, as well as many kinds of ticket purchases. Further, SK Teletech’s SKY handsets that will soon be launched into the Chinese market will be showcased in this sector.
In addition to participating in the exhibition, the company is conducting intensive promotional activities designed to inform the public about SK Telecom’s wireless Internet service businesses in China, as well as showcasing its superior technology.
