Built With 10.3 Billion Won SK Telecom Donated
Equipped With Telecom Lab and Women’s IT Training Center
SK Telecom (President: Jung Uck Seo) is having the opening and dedication ceremony of the Ewha-SK Telecom Building, a hi-tech building dedicated to the development of telecom and the promotion of the Information Society in the twenty-first century, at eleven o’clock in the morning of August 28.
The company donated 10.3 billion won to Ewha Womens University to build facilities for training IT professionals and had the ground-breaking ceremony in August 1996. After two years of construction, the building consisting of two sub-ground and five above-ground stories and sprawling over 2,000-pyung area (one pyung is equal to 35.58 square feet) has been completed.
In their joint announcement, SK Telecom and the university said that they expect the facilities to be used as a springboard for Korean telecom industry by infusing it with highly trained professionals in multimedia program production and at the same time as a venue of important telecom events as well as a retraining facilities for people who need to learn state-of-the-art telecom technology. They said it would provide a model for cooperation between industry and university.
The telecom lab of the Ewha-SK Telecom Building will have a software lab, a multimedia research center, a telecom technology R&D center and a strategic research center for an Information Society. The Building will also have a Netsgo training center for women for the purpose of bringing more women into the IT workforce.
