Lays the groundwork for advancing into the European market. SK Telecom will carry out business development and R&D activities together with Teliasonera, by launching Working Groups.
On the 16th of September, SK Telecom reached a business cooperation agreement (MOU) with Teliasonera (www.teliasonera.com), for the purpose of jointly developing and commercializing new businesses. In this regard, the two companies will share R&D and current business activities by forming working groups. They also agreed to sign a specific business cooperation agreement by the end of this year.
The specific business areas of interest to both companies are: information exchange, joint business development, cross licensing, partnership exchange, joint advancement into overseas markets, etc. In particular, they will first select feasible projects, and then develop them into commercialization through constant discussion between the two companies’ working groups. These projects include the commercialization of next generation terminals, networks, and wireless Internet services.
Through this business affiliation with Teliasonera, SK Telecom will be able to further strengthen its overseas operations by utilizing its world-class level of wireless Internet technology, and network operating know-how. The company also expects to increase its technological competitiveness in the European market.
Teliasonera is a corporation formed by the merger of Telia, the largest telecom company in Sweden, and Sonera, the number one telecom company in Finland. The company is considered to be the largest total telecom company in northern Europe, and it holds a number of equity shares of telecom companies in Turkey and Eurasia. Currently Teliasonera is providing mobile phone service to 9.7 million subscribers in northern Europe.
