SK Telecom Donates 255 Cellular Phones
SK Telecom (President: Jung Uck Seo) said today that it will donate 255 cellular phones to the Korea Association of the Welfare Institutes for the Disabled. The Association will use the donated phones to establish an emergency communication line between 254 facilities for the handicapped.
Presently, the most facilities lack the emergency communication system necessary to deal with urgent situations. With the donation, the facilities will be able to communicate with each other within a few seconds in an emergency. The company bundled the 255 numbers as a group so that calls between the facilities can be made with four digit numbers like with extension numbers, enabling speedy communication.
SK Telecom donates more than 50 wheelchairs and subsidiaries to the handicapped every year. In May last year, the company produced 15,000 CD-ROMs containing various information concerning the handicapped and donated them to an organization of the handicapped, and currently sponsors the Goodlife Homepage (http://www.goodlife.net) based on the CD-ROMs, the largest online database on handicapped in Korea.
SK Telecom has shown a consistent interest in helping people in need. It has been the leading force in fighting the school violence, giving hope to the young family supporters and in advocating the rights of the handicapped to a better life. The company is presently planning various ways of helping the handicapped including hosting a Search Internet Information Contest for the Handicapped in order to help the handicapped to benefit from the widespread use of information technology.
