Press Release
The nation’s fastest and most advanced delivery service is being launched.
All the processes of this delivery service will be automatically conducted by using a geographical information database developed through a global positioning system.
A text message regarding the delivery completion will be transmitted to the cellular phones of the customers who ordered the delivery.
Motorcycle Quick Delivery Service (Hereinafter called Quick Service) has become an automated cutting-edge service through combining it with wireless PDAs. On August 21, SK Telecom launched the Jet Rider service that automates all of the processes in the delivery service. This is accomplished by connecting with location information, geographic information database, as well as a wired and wireless application through a global positioning system.
The Jet Rider service has a systematic structure that computerizes customers’ orders, provides real-time information on the delivery process, and transmits text messages about the completion of delivery to customers. This service is made possible by combining CDMA module-installed Jet Rider service PDAs with the computers of the Quick Service providers.
The Jet Rider service lets Quick Service providers computerize all of the delivery orders that used to be managed manually. The orders input in the computer, are automatically transmitted to a delivery staff members PDA, and the delivery staff member can report the completion of delivery by pressing a single button on his/her PDA. If Quick Service providers subscribe to the service, they can greatly cut their expenses through saving telecommunication costs, and reducing manpower in their call centers.
In addition, the delivery staff can systematically deliver orders by the shortest travel route, thereby contributing to fuel savings, and increasing the number of deliveries. There is also proper allocation of delivery quantity, and automatic management of delivery receipts.
This service also lets the Quick Service providers verify the delivery staffs’ location on a real-time basis, and confirm the completion of their delivery without making calls to the delivery staff. Furthermore, they can search for detailed information on the receivers’ location, such as address and name of receivers’ business, through the geographical information database. Customers can execute their signature on the PDA after receiving the goods. Upon receiving the customers’ signatures, the delivery staff member presses the delivery completion button on their PDA, and then the text message on the delivery completion is transmitted to the cellular phones of the customers who ordered the delivery.
The service rate consists of four package rate plans. The activation fee is 55 thousand won, and ASP use fee is one thousand won. Through data gathered during the pilot service, SK Telecom estimates that a delivery staff member spends 40 or 50 thousand won for cellular phone calls a month, when they use the Jet Rider service. This results in a savings of up to half of their prior communication costs that averaged from 80 thousand to 150 thousand won.
Currently this service can be offered for two models of PDA (Cellbig XG and Cyberbank POZ 1). Additional models for the service will be introduced later this year. SK Telecom launched the pilot Jet Rider service, with 500 delivery staff employees, starting in December 2002. This pilot service showed an increase in productivity, and a decrease in the job separation rate. As a result, the service area will be expanded into the nationwide market, and PDAs will be distributed to about 200 thousand delivery staff members, nationwide.
