Invites the students of the Special Alternative School called ’Wild Flowers Blooming School’ to the exhibition.
SK Telecom announced its participation in ’Expo Com Wireless KOREA 2003’, which will take place at the COEX Exhibition Center (Samsung-dong, Seoul) from the 12th through the 15th of May. In its exhibition, the company plans to showcase the cutting edge services that illustrate the advanced current state of Korea’s telecommunications technologies. In addition to this, SK Telecom will host children and teenagers from ’Wild Flowers Blooming School’, who were not properly taken care of by their family.
Under the slogan of "Realizing An Ubiquitous World, Anytime and Anywhere, with Any Device", SK Telecom will demonstrate various kinds of wireless Internet services in 3 areas divided into ’Ubiquitous Multimedia-June’, ’Ubiquitous Internet-NATE’ and ’Ubiquitous Payment-MONETA’. More than 200 telecommunication companies in 20 countries around the globe will participate in the exhibition.
On the opening day (May 12th) of the exhibition, SK Telecom will invite about 30 students and teachers of ’Wild Flower Blooming School, (see Footnote 1) a special alternative school for children and teenagers who are unable to enjoy a normal education because of their unfortunate family background. The company will take them to view the entire exhibitions, movies, and aquarium in the COEX Center.
A SK Telecom official said "This invitation to the program is designed to provide these students with an opportunity to gain practical education about cutting-edge telecommunication technologies, and allow them to directly experience that type of environment. This will motivate them and enhance their will to participate in the challenging new fields of our information-based society".
In the ’Ubiquitous Multimedia’ area, the viewers are allowed to experience ’June’ services such as videophones, streaming video mail, Streaming TV broadcasting, and VOD, among others. In the ’Ubiquitous Internet’ area, the company will showcase a vast array of NATE services. These include Mobile Messenger ’NATE-ON’, Home Automation (Home Care), Location-Based Services, Network Games, MMS, etc.
The ’Ubiquitous Payment’ corner furnishes such services as fee payments, cash withdrawing from a bank, use of vending machines, subway train fare payments, etc. using the MONETA service. This service also allows users to obtain civil affairs documents (like family residential registration papers) through wireless authentication.
Several telecommunication-related conferences will be held, together with the exhibitions, during the ’Expo Com Wireless KOREA 2003’. In the conference to be held on the 12th of May, Seung Yong Jung, assistant manager of SK Telecom’s Business Division, will make a presentation regarding Ubiquitous Technology-applied Home Automation Services. This will be under the subject of, ’The Control and Application of Ubiquitous Technology-equipped Smart-Homes’.
In ’Expo Com Wireless KOREA 2003’, SK Telecom has focused on shaping the image of the ’Ubiquitous Technology’ and ’Convergence’ trends through such products as June, NATE, NONETA, etc. In addition to the exhibition of telecommunication service products, the company will also present tap dance and music playing performances to entertain all participants in the exposition, as well as conducting premium award events.
(Footnote 1) ’Wild Flowers Blooming School’: Some children who had no family or home were found in a church. This made people realize that someone must take care of these homeless children. As a result, the volunteer community called ’Wild Flowers Blooming Village’ was formed in October 1994. As the children grew, the community realized the need to provide them with a normal education. In this regard, ’Wild Flowers Blooming School was founded in 1997 as a special alternative school. To date, more than 100 juveniles have returned to the normal lives in the society after having studied and lived in this school. Currently 46 children and teenagers are living and studying in the ’Wild Flowers Blooming School’.
