The Automatic Roaming Service Evaluation Group that consists of SK Telecom customers, departed for Japan on the 25th of April 2003 in order to experience the call quality of Automatic Roaming Service in Japan for two nights and three days.
SK Telecom announced that the ’Automatic Roaming Service Evaluation Group departed for Japan on the 25th of April 2003. This group was drawn from ’Japan Automatic Roaming Service’ customers.
SK Telecom selected the member of the group by drawing lots among customers who subscribe to Korea-Japan Automatic Roaming Service. This group will evaluate for two nights and three days the call quality of SK Telecom’s Automatic Roaming Service near Universal Studio and Osaka Castle in Osaka Japan. This is an area that Korean tourists visit frequently.
In order to enjoy Korea-Japan Automatic Roaming Service, customers have to use the SCH-X600 Dual-Mode Handset that SK Telecom introduced in May of last year. This handset allows automatic roaming with Japan, even though a different frequency bandwidth is used there. With this handset, customers can also enjoy Automatic Roaming Service in the U.S., China, Hong Kong, Canada, New Zealand, Guam, and many other countries.
According to SK Telecom officials, there are about 12 thousand customers using Korea Japan Automatic Roaming phone service, and a daily average of one thousand Korean customers are enjoying automatic roaming service in Japan using this handset.
SK Telecom provides an SMS Arrival Service that allows customers to receive written messages as well as voice call roaming in Japan. Within this year, the company plans to furnish a wireless Internet roaming service that enables a NATE connection as well as value-added services like the ’Calling Number Identification Service’.
