The participants in the ceremony are Jae Duk Ko, mayor of the Seongdong District Office, Priest Kang Seo Lee, president of the Seongdong Self-help Promotion Agency, and Hun Ho Je, general manager of SK Telecom.
SK Telecom will support the assignment of a ’Special Education Assistant Group’ that helps physically challenged elementary students properly adapt themselves to new school circumstances. These students have difficulties in a school environment due to disabilities. The launching ceremony of the ’Special Education Assistant Group,’ managed by the Seongdong Self-help Promotion Agency (president: Kang Seo Lee), and sponsored by the Seongdong District Office (Mayor: Jae Duk Ko) and the Community Chest of Korea, took place in the Seongdong District Office on March 12th.
Ten Special Education Assistants, that were selected last February and finished education program courses, will be assigned to 10 special classes in elementary schools in the Seongdong and Gwangjin Districts starting the 18th of March. They will carry out their mission until the end of this year.
The education program course for Special Education Assistants, and their assignment to the classes of elementary school, were designed to help physically challenged elementary students develop normally, improve their abilities to adapt to society, and support their learning activities in the school.
The Seongdong Self-help Promotion Agency carefully selected the Special Education Assistants who have social welfare-related licenses, and who are childcare teachers and low- income women who have to take care of their family. The selected assistants will support the classes for disabled children, their outdoor education programs, provision of meals, educational programs after school, etc. SK Telecom plans to evaluate these activities by the end of this year, and based on the result of the evaluation, expand its support activity in the assignment of ’Special Education Assistant Groups’ to every district in Seoul by next year.
