2002 SK Telecom Wired and Wireless Internet Survival Competition For Physically Challenged Youth?is being held for 100 hours ending on November 1st 2002.
Competing, are 16 participants divided into eight teams. Each team will consist of 2 physically handicapped youth, including those with visual, mental, and hearing impairments.
Participants have to complete certain assignments during the competition. These include such things as pre-ticketing and mobile commerce among others.
The?2001 SK Telecom Wired and Wireless Internet Survival Competition For Physically Challenged Youth?will finish on the first of November. It will generate great interest from net-citizens. This competition is designed to help physically challenged youth increase their aspirations, and responses to challenges. It will also help them overcome their disabilities through use of the Internet. In addition, this event aims to encourage physically challenged youth to get involved in our information-based society and join the social mainstream.
Prior to the contest, 16 persons divided into 8 teams, were selected by conducting two preliminary screening contests. They used only the Internet for their total life needs during the 100 hours occupying 5 days and 4 nights.
The participants entered their own room and survived there for 100 hours using only the Internet with 200,000 won cash and a credit card that had a limit of 800,000 won to cover the cost of food, clothing, and shelter. In addition, they did a total of 15 assignments such as "Advance purchasing of tickets", "Applying for civil affair documents via the Internet", and "Sending a relief fund for flood victims by using NeMo" among others.
500,000 won cash prizes will be given to each participant who passed two preliminary screening contests. The winners will receive various other prizes such as the scholarship, notebook computer, a PC and a PDA. There was a special broadcast of all segments of the Internet Survival Competition in order to encourage the participation of the general net citizen as well as families and friends of physically challenged youth. There was also a chat room to give everyone the opportunity to make friends with physically challenged youth.
