SK Telecom Supports the Physically Challenged Athletes on Korean National Team for the Busan Asian-Pacific Physically Challenged Sports Competition.
2002.10.17 PrintThe company cheerfully gives financial and moral support to the Korean National Team of Challenged Athletes competing in the 8th Busan Asian-Pacific Physically Challenged Sports Competition, by contributing 50 million won.
On the 17th of October, Jung Nam Cho, vice-chairman of SK Telecom, visited the training center located in Seoul Veterans Hospital at Duenchon-dong. He spoke words of encouragement to the Physically Disabled athletes and gave them the 50 million won.
The 8th Busan Asian-Pacific Physically Challenged Sports Competition will be held for one week, beginning on October 26, at Busan. There are 17 sports divisions in which a total of two thousand 5 hundred physically disabled athletes from 42 countries will participate.
SK Telecom noticed that 450 national team members are divided into 14 groups and trained at 14 training camps nationwide. Sensing a lack of national support and interest in this event, the company contributed 50 million won for practical uses such as supporting the cost of training and food.
At the ceremony for the contribution, Jung Nam Cho, vice-chairman of SK Telecom commented, "The little national interest in 8th Busan Asian-Pacific Physically Challenged Sports Competition causes hardships for our national team’s athletes. By making this contribution, SK Telecom not only gives the team practical support, but also becomes the starting point for arousing national concern and interest in physically disabled people."
In addition, SK Telecom is already heavily sponsoring physically challenged youth and orphaned teenagers who support their siblings under the slogan" Open A Wider World". The company is spending 10 billion won on the ’SK Telecom Social Contribution Program’ that is designed to actively fulfill the companies perceived social welfare responsibilities.
