200 children with innate facial deformity will be given free operation
SK Telecom(President Jung Uck Seo) is giving cosmetic surgery to Vietnamese children born with facial deformity together with "Semin Help group for those with facial deformity," and "Inje university-Baek Hospital plastic surgery" during June 8, ’98 and June 13.
The reconstructive surgery will take place at Military Central Hospital at Hanoi, and about two hundred local children with innate facial deformity will benefit. SK Telecom will provide medical supplies and equipment for the surgery as well.
SK Telecom started funding this reconstructive surgery program in 1996 in order to give humanitarian medical relief to Vietnamese children who are suffering from debilitating facial deformity and poverty.
"Semin Help group for those with facial deformity" was founded as "Help group for those with facial deformity" in 1989, and has been touring all over Korea giving free operation and financial support jointly with "Inje university-Baek Hospital plastic surgery".
After reorganized into "Semin Help group for those with facial deformity" Corporation in 1996, it has expanded its reached to overseas. Vietnam is chosen as this year’s project since the nation is having financial difficulties in providing welfare to general public as it is about to make a leap into world community.
So far, 125 children in 1996, 250 in 1997 got the reconstructive surgery for free, and in this year’s third campaign, Korean medical staff of four plastic surgeons, one resident, and four nurses will restore not only their face but also smiles.
As this campaign serves humanitarian cause as well as enhancing bilateral ties between Vietnam and Korea , SK Telecom will continue to support this program for nurturing friendship, and becoming a continuing presence in Vietnam.
