On the 26th of July 2002, SK Corporation and SK Global announced the issue of overseas stocks such as ADRs (American Depositary Receipts), and EBs (Exchangeable Bonds), amounting to two trillion Korean won (US$1.68 billion).
With a view toward issuing overseas stocks, the officials of both companies carried out road shows around Asian, European, and American securities markets, starting on the 15th of July 2002. As a result, Chang Geun Kim, president and CEO of SK Corporation finally signed a stock issuing contract on the 25th of July in San Francisco.
SK Corporation acquired funds amounting to 1.47 billion US dollars by issuing ADRs and EBs, while SK Global obtained 210 million dollars by issuing ADRs based on 1.1 million SK Telecom shares. The funds from the issuing of ADRs and EBs will be deposited in early August.
"In spite of the unstable market situation, both companies successfully issued ADRs and EBs. This was due to the overseas investors’ favorable recognition of SK Telecom and the high credibility of SK Corporation" commented an SK official. " The funds gained by issuing ADRs and EBs will be used for strengthening the stability of both companies’ financial structures by doing things such as repaying loans" he added.
