SK Telecom Concludes an Agreement for Becoming an Official Information Communication Field Sponsor of the 2002 Busan Asian Games

SK Telecom (www.sktelecom.com) will enhance its sports marketing by sponsoring the "2002 Busan Asian Games", a grand festival for 3.6 billion Asian people. These games are scheduled to be held from September 29th to October 14th, 2002. During the 2002 World Cup, SK Telecom played an important role in cheer-leading events (Victory~ Korea~) that drew keen attention from the world’s press.
On the 4th of July 2002 at the Lotte Hotel in Busan, SK Telecom, Busan Asian Games Committee, Busan Metropolitan City, and OCA (Olympic Council of Asia) gathered together and held a joint ceremony that cemented the formal partnership in the information communication field for the 2002 Busan Asian Games.
In this agreement, SK Telecom, as a formal sponsor of 2002 Busan Asian Games, will gain the exclusive rights to marketing in the mobile communication, wireless Internet service, mobile payment service (MONETA Card), and IMT-2000 service fields. To be more specific, SK Telecom will have the right to use the Asian Games’ formal mark and name, on game stadiums’ advertising boards, and stadiums’ Hospitality Zone. The company also has the right to carry out exclusive promotion activities, to choose the runner for the sacred-fire relay, and to hold ceremonies for awarding prizes to game winners.
"SK Telecom, as a major company in Korea, will put forth its best efforts to make the Asian Games successful and introduce the world’s best information communication technologies to all Asians" commented Bang Hyung Lee, managing director of SK Telecom, while attending the joint ceremony.
At the same time, Sun Taek Jung, head of 2002 Busan Asian Games Committee, said "SK Telecom’s official participation in the Asian Games will certainly contribute to promoting the overall image of the Games".
