The company recently strengthened a cooperative tie with GMATE in Korea, in order to carry out the Linux OS-based PDA business.
The company expanded its NATE PDA service business area into the service for the Linux OS-based PDA, following with services for CellBig PDA and WinCE PDA.

On the 26th of June, 2002, SK Telecom (www.sktelecom.com) and GMATE (www.gmate.com) executed an MOU agreement to implement the joint business of the Linux (Footnote 1) OS-based PDA. Through this effort, the company will expand the NATE service for PDA into the Linux OS-based PDA service in cooperation with GMATE, a specialized PDA manufacturer.
SK Telecom plans to develop the application and browser for the exclusive use of the NATE service and Linux operating system for access to the NATE service. On the other hand, GMATE will take charge of the development of a Linux OS-based PDA by gaining Linux OS technologies and sources from SK Telecom. Due to this accord, the company will be able to provide NATE service for the Linux OS-based PDA by September of this year. This will be followed by NATE services for JTEL’s CellBig PDA and MS’s WinCE PDA.
Linux OS-based PDA offers the same level of multimedia functions and performances as MS’s WinCE type PDA. However, its price is lower due to the fact that the company does not have to pay a license fee for a Linux OS-based PDA.
As SK Telecom, a mobile communication service provider, and GMATE, a PDA manufacturer, cooperatively launch the Linux OS-based PDA business, the national Linux OS-based industry will greatly benefit. This will also have a positive effect on the standardization of Linux OS-based PDAs.
In order to fit customers’ life styles, and fulfill their desires, the Linux OS-based PDA for the use of NATE service, provides more stylish and convenient design, folder type shape, key pad with the same format as a general PCs’ keyboard, and movable cellular module.
