SK Telecom Donates One PC to each Household of Orphaned Teenagers Who Support Their Siblings
2002.01.07 PrintThe company has donated PCs to 6,040 households since the year 2000 and plans to continuously donate PCs to each new household of orphaned teenagers who support their siblings.
As part of a series of information promoting activities to help those people who are being left out of the mainstream of society, SK Telecom also offers information technology training programs.
SK Telecom (www.sktelecom.com) announced that the company has completed the ?One PC to One Household? project by donating PCs to 830 households of orphaned teenagers who support their siblings on January 4, 2002. This was carried out in order to fulfill SK Telecom’s pledge to give blessings back to society for the blessings the company has received.
In 2000, there were a total of 7,184 households of orphaned teenagers who support their siblings registered to the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Out of 7,184 households, 1,974 households already had PCs, and SK Telecom supplied PCs to the other 5,210 households of orphaned teenagers who support their siblings. In addition, the company donated Pentium IV PCs to 830 new households in 2001. As a result, the PC donations now total 6,040 to those households. This PC donation is designed to break the Digital Divide for orphaned teenagers who support their siblings and were being left out of the mainstream of our information society.
The 830 households of orphaned teenagers who support their siblings that received PCs’ were newly selected by the Korea Welfare Foundation that belongs to the Ministry of Health and Welfare. SK Telecom also offers information technology training programs to help these orphaned children increase their practical capabilities in our information knowledge-based society.
In the future, SK Telecom will continue to carry out the PC donation and IT training programs for new orphaned teenagers who support their siblings, working together with the Korea Welfare Foundation. As information aiding activities for orphaned teenagers who support their siblings, SK Telecom has also hosted the Camp of Love and Hope every year since 1998, and carries out ?Classrooms of Love? that provide food for undernourished children and gives them education in information technology during their vacation.
In addition, SK Telecom is putting forth its best efforts to continue to carry out social contribution activities to aid those people who are lost in the shadows of society. These activities include offering Internet and computer class tours for special schools for disabled youth, donating PCs and offering computer classes to special schools for disabled youth, sponsoring Internet Search Contest for physically challenged youth, and donating 5,000 PCs to 580 schools in country side, among others.
