PDA service can fulfill successful tour guiding roles in preparing for next year’s World Cup and the Asian Games, when a large number of foreign visitors are expected to be in Korea.
SK Telecom announced the start of ?Tour PDA? service on the 13th of this month that provides excellent tour guide service for foreign visitors through voice communication and high speed wireless data service based on CDMA2000 1x.
?Tour PDA? service provides a wide variety of convenient tour guide content which serves like a real personal guide. This includes such things as tour guide information in English and Japanese regarding transportation, shopping, discount coupons, translations and business information, among others. There is also voice and real time e-mail communication through a PDA that is loaded with CDMA2000 1x wireless modem.
Foreign customers who want to use the ?Tour PDA? service can rent a PDA terminal at the hotel. After using the service and returning the terminal, they can conveniently pay their charges right away through a ?Real Time Billing System?.
For the ?Tour PDA? service, SK Telecom formed a strategic alliance with SK Global that provides ?011 Terminal Rental Service?, and ?Global Roaming Service? beginning on the 7th of this month. The company also made a similar agreement with Maginet that provides ?Pay TV? as a hotel room service and ?Internet Service Settlement Accounts Systems? in 13 different nations.
?Tour PDA? service will first start at the Westin Chosun Hotel and will later expand to other first class hotels, airports, airline companies, and travel agencies, among others.
?Tour PDA? uses the one body ’i-PAQ’ terminal that is manufactured by COMPAQ and it is attached CDMA2000 1x exclusive kit. It provides contents for foreigners that are made by SDK and Mobiya.
The rates for this service will be varied by the rate systems of each hotel, but the rate for information use is free of charge. The PDA rental is 20,000 Korean won per day and the call rate is 300 won per minute.
