SK Telecom Sponsors 2001 Internet Survival Competition For Physically Challenged Youth.
2001.10.29 PrintThere will be five teams competing. Each team will consist of 2 physically handicapped youth, including those with visual, mental, and hearing impairments.
Participants will face the challenges involved with surviving, while depending solely on the Internet, for 100 hours during the 5 days and 4 nights of the competition.
Participants also have to complete certain assignments during the competition. These would include such things as pre-ticketing, cyber pet raising, and mini-game playing among others.

"Physically challenged youth?s sharp survival combat is about to begin?"
SK Telecom (www.sktelecom.com) announced that the company will hold the?2001 SK Telecom Internet Survival Competition For Physically Challenged Youth?from October 29 through November 2 in the Human Touch Building of Seoul. This competition is designed to help physically challenged youth increase their aspirations, and responses to challenges. It will also help them overcome their disabilities through use of the Internet. In addition, this event aims to encourages physically challenged youth to get involved in our information-based society and join the social mainstream.
Prior to the contest, five teams of 10 persons were selected by conducting two preliminary screening contests. They will be using only the Internet for their total life needs during 100 hours of the 5 days and 4 nights.
The participants enter their own room and survive there for 100 hours using only the Internet and a credit card that has a limit of one million Korean won to cover the cost of food, clothing, and shelter. In addition, they have to do a total of 10 assignments such as ?Advance purchasing of tickets?, ’Growing a cyber pet’, ?Making my own music album?, ?Delivering fruit baskets?, ?Chatting to make friends?, and ?Writing and sending a personal story? among others.
During the contest, on top of the scores of each assignment, participants abilities are also evaluated in the categories of planning, socializing, financing and being sincere and diligent. These traits are considered essential virtues for living a better life. Cash prizes, and various other prizes such as the scholarship, notebook computer, and PDA will be given to the participants.
There will be a special broadcast of all segments of the Internet Survival Competition through "Let’s Go" in order to encourage the participation of the general net citizen as well as families and friends of physically challenged youth. There will also be a chatting room to give everyone the opportunity to make friends with physically challenged youth.
