On September 10, SK Telecom (www.sktelecom.com) announced that Wang Ing Pei, president of Unicom Horizon Mobile Communications of China (UHMC ** Note1), and his delegation would visit SK Telecom from September 10 to 11 for a comprehensive discussion about cooperative matters in all business areas of the two companies.
This visit to SK Telecom was also aimed at conducting an on-the-spot inspection of SK Telecom?s marketing activities, wireless Internet service, and network operation areas prior to launching CDMA cellular phone service in China beginning this October. The delegation consisted of a group of 6 people including the president of UHMC.
On September 10, the delegation had a pleasant and productive talk with Jung-Nam Cho, vice-chairman of SK Telecom, and was given an explanation of SK Telecom?s current business operation by directors of the Marketing, Wireless Internet Service, and Network Operation Departments. They also discussed the expansion of the scope of business of the two companies and the current status of the CDMA cellular service business in China with Moon-Soo Pyo, president of SK Telecom. The heads of the two companies took this opportunity to increase their understanding of the achievements being made in the ongoing training programs and other cooperative activities in the CDMA technology area. Based on these factors they talked over a specific scheme to expand their cooperative efforts in wireless Internet service, marketing strategy, and voice and data roaming as well as other areas.
At the same time, the delegation plans to take a look at SK Telecom?s business sites and R&D facilities. In the afternoon of September 10, they visited TTL Zone in Shinchon town and were given an explanation of TTL, one of the successful marketing activities of SK Telecom. On the following day the delegation is scheduled to visit SK Telecom?s Network R&D Center in Boondang City and the IT R&D Center in Borame town.
The delegation?s visit to SK Telecom is being carried out at the time when the two companies are strengthening bilateral business exchanges and cooperation through consulting and training programs in CDMA technology. Therefore, this visit will lay the groundwork for further accelerating the cooperative ties between the two companies.
SK Telecom had planned to provide two technical and marketing training programs on CDMA technology for UHMC?s personnel from May 14 to the end of August this year. However, the company decided to give one more marketing training program because there was such a great response to the last two programs from UHMC?s personnel.
Therefore, SK Telecom has been providing the third marketing training program in the Human Resource Development Center in Ichoen City since September 4.
Furthermore, the company will offer a fourth training program starting September 16. This means 130 engineers and marketing managers from UHMC will be trained through four CDMA- related training courses given by SK Telecom.
In addition to SK Telecom?s CDMA consulting program currently taking place in the UHMC branch offices located in the five Chinese provinces of Heirungjang, Pujen, Raoning, Jiangsu and Hainan, other UHMC branch offices in other regions are requesting the same consulting programs. In response to these requests, SK Telecom is negotiating the provision of specific programs for them.
Moon-Soo Pyo, president of SK Telecom, said ?the CDMA training and engineering consulting programs taking place since last May are the starting point of a larger cooperative project between Korea and China. Moreover, it is the first stage in fostering the recognition by China of SK Telecom?s technological excellence as a business partner?. ?The UHMC president?s visit to SK Telecom will provide the opportunity to expand bilateral cooperation into other business areas such as network platform building, cellular handset manufacturing and the financial enabling business, in addition to the existing network business. This will pave the way to create new business values in China as well as enhance SK Telecom?s corporate value? he added.
